Fly a Kite: Go to Jail
Western imperialism, the idea that we are better than the rest of the world and that we should dominate it, is one reason I hesitate to write this piece. The Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled that kite flying was forbidden. They ruled, according to Cable News Network, that kites were dangerous as several people had been killed by strings attached to the kites.
More likely, it seems to me, that the Pakistani authorities have taken a page from the Western Imperialism book and are supressing what Web India describes as an important cultural and historical activity. People took to the streets, kites in hand, outside the Supreme Court yesterday. The police were called in and, as expected, sent many folks to hospital...for flying kites.
