French Benefits...in England?

In a commercial for Federal Express a character tells another that just as they don't pay too much for Fed Ex service, they don't get "French Benefits" at work either.

Of course, for folks fortunate enough to have a solid career going, fringe benefits are part of what makes work worth doing. Today many of us face a loss of these benefits.

For members of the gay and lesbian community there has never been the same sort of benefits package as for straight, especially married couples. From 401 K plans to medical plans to stock option plans to death benefits, most gay or lesbian couples get butkus here in the US. Not so in England.

Gay Wired has published an article that points out that British Greens are not willing to settle for laws establishing equality; they want actions to back up the words!

The article says "Nigel Tart, a spokesman for the Green Party of England and Wales, said: “many thousands of same sex partners will be affected and many wrongly believe that it is only those couples who enter into a legal partnership who will be affected. Awareness of this problem seems very low.” Imagine folks...demanding that the people effected be told that they now have rights they can exercise. That's green for you! Personal and Global Responsibility demands that everyone both have and accept equal rights and responsibilities. The Brits are to be congratulated for getting it right.
