Is the US preparing to invade Iran?
In an article in Asia Times Online, an unnamed reporter writes that "US covert operations inside Iran aimed at destabilizing the country and toppling the regime - or preparing for an American attack." Now I have no idea how trustworthy the Asia Times Online is, but the reporter says he learned this from "A former Iranian ambassador and Islamic Republic insider..." For more insightful observations, hit the "Read more!" link, or read the article online at the link above...
If accurate, this is certainly troubling. Maybe I'm more gullible than I thought, but I assumed that the pundits were right when they said that Bush wouldn't invade Iran because he has the military tied up elsewhere.
The "ex-Foreign Ministry official..." claims that Iran is prepared to cause trouble for the US led occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan, apparently just to piss off Bush. If my "reading between the lines" glasses are working, it seems that some in Iran want to go to war with the US. I would assume that territorial and/or influence expansion would be the goal. Sorry, but every war is ultimately about someone rich getting richer.
As the article points out, Seymour Hersh reported in The New Yorker that the Bush administration was preparing for war on Iran, including putting secret agents in place. (That's what our guys are. There guys are "spies.") The impression is that the US may be spreading money around like candy, so long as you are opposed to the Iranian Government. Wonder if the Iranian Greens will get a windfall? I doubt it. We Greens are seldom friends of the "Establishment", regardless of which establishment you're discussing.
I wish there were better, more dependable (is that racist?) source of information on this. Afterall, if Bush and Co are already in place inside Iran with covert operators, without congressional approval, and without provocation, isn't that another impeachable offense? (As if we didn't have enough)
Either way, the Greens and advocates for peace world wide need to be raising hell about this if it's true. I'm pretty damn sure an invasion of Iran in September of 2007 would cinch things for the Republican nominee...or for Bush and Co to call off the elections "temporarily"...
