How do we communicate?
There are always those who say that the people of the United States are too deep in a drug, TV and prosperity induced coma to make valid decisions about politics, and as such, the time is not ripe for a new political party or system. They may say things like "We're in a pre-party phase", which to me really says "We are too lazy to actually do this, so we'll talk about it instead."
That said, there is no doubt in my mind that the Green Party needs both a long term vision for the future that includes a HUGE dose of people education, and a willingness to use way-out-of-the-box thinking to get that message through.
The Green Party should be printing graphic novels about how a Green Future might look, not free of conflict, but hopefully free of social injustice? Maybe we should print copies of Brave New World, and create our own adaptations and novels based on Huxley's works. They are apparently in the public domain, and as such we can use them as we see fit. Similarly, if Greens will write and record spoken word and music, and place it in the public domain, untold millions may get a message they otherwise would not get.
Think about it, would it have an impact on your community if you were able to hand folks a DVD holding speeches by Dr. King, songs by Pete Seeger, plays by Ibsen, rap by Head Roc, testimony by Ralph Nader, the warning from President Eisenhower, and dozens of other mind-opening things for them to experience...media has an impact, and we need to find ways to make our own freaking impact. Sorry, but we are running out of time. If Al Gore can get his Hollywood associates to provide X millions of dollars to make Inconvenient Truth, and for it to find an audience as large as it has, surely we can find a way to raise a few hundred thousand dollars to make a thirty minute film that tells the story of empowerment that the Green Party represents....
Nothing but musing folks.
