Another Reply to Salzman
Owen Broadhurst, candidate for state legislature in MA, has written a reply to Salzman's writing which is published here behind the "Read more!" link with only this comment. Owen, like me, supported Ms. Salzman in her presidential bid. For his comments, hit the link...
Very pleased am I to learn of an NYGP prescence protesting the continued harassment of Abdul-Jalil - but to describe this as a "trial" without more
suggests that the imam is himself standing trial for some crime. If he is, then I certainly have not read of it. My suspicion is that this relates to what I believe was an illegal suspension of Abdul-Jalil from his chaplaincy.
Presumably, these NYGP members are concerned over how the imam was disciplined for daring exercise First Amendment rights - rights he did not sacrifice in accepting his chaplaincy.
Prison also serves as recruitment ground for nearly every other religion, including the Wiccan faith and Christianity. There's certainly nothing nefarious in that. My very own Rowan Tree Church has also reached out to people imprisoned. Prison is indeed fruitful turf for those bringing news of hope and a more spiritual reflection and lifestyle. I see no harm in that.
Just so, prisons - by their very twisted, sick and inhuman nature - indeed do serve to radicalize many. Few can see more clearly who the criminal justice system in fact benefits and how then those whose lives are destroyed by it.

As for what the imam may have said in his memoirs, I would like to point out that he never once uttered the remarks above now being attributed to him. Warith Deen Umar - SOMEONE ELSE ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT - did. It helps to get one's facts straight before proceeding to defame semi-name sakes.

Wallace 10X later assumed the name Warith Deen Umar. He does not happen to be Umar Abdul-Jalil, but actually happens to be a completely different individual. Get it? Good!
The imam did indeed say that Moslems should not allow Zionists in the media to define what Islam is. The imam also did indeed urge being "hard against the kufr". This imam did not, I repeat DID NOT - hey, let me type that again a few more times in order for the message to sink in: DID NOT, DID NOT, DID NOT, DID NOT, DID NOT - I'm telling you that he did not EVER say that the Koran doesn't condemn terrorism against oppressors of Moslems. Warith Deen Umar did.
Mohammed Abed is a Green, is he not? He has every right to draft proposals for National Committee consideration. He did not prepare this alone, however. My belief is that Ben Manski had a hand in preparing the resolution, along with several others. Al Awda, by the way, is not a Moslem organization.
I'm very pleased that he (Howie Hawkins) did.(support the resolution calling for a boycott of Israel) It was the right thing to do.
(In reference to the accusation that California Greens are actively recruiting Muslims into the party) As are many activists in the Green-Rainbow Party. I am also doing this. I have also been recruiting the homeless!
Presumably, the phrase "pro-Islamist" is code here for "anti-apartheid." I'm pleased the Greens are challenging apartheid, as this is indeed proof in the pudding of its peace orientation.
Read that sentence again. (These same factions are now echoing the anti-Semitic beliefs of Islamists in this country) This sentence infers that anti-Semitism
characterizes all Moslem. This sentence infers also that opposition to apartheid equates to hatred of Jews.
I know many left-wing Moslems. So, so much for that remark.
As of yet, however, not one shred of evidence has ever been offered to document this accusation. (That the USGP has been "infiltrated" by radical Muslims who hate America) On the contrary, P 180 constitutes "proof" to those making this accusation.
Folks on this list (National Committee list)should know that the Green-Rainbow Party's pioneering support of divestment efforts really hasn't attracted public notice.
**NOTE** I did some tiny bits of snippage because occasionally Owen would use a one line response which I couldn't translate into an understandable connection...my lack of skills, not his.
